Description
8.20am on the morning of the 18th April 1942, Colonel “Jimmy” Doolittle opens the throttle to full power to launch his B-25 down the heaving deck of the carrier USS Hornet into a 27 knot gale. His mission, to lead a bomber strike at the very heart of Imperial Japan.
Flying their sixteen-bomber force on a long distance one-way mission, the Doolittle Raiders completed the first strike on Imperial Japan since the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor four months earlier. Together, they completed one of the most audacious air raids in aviation history.
