January 1945; the war was not going well for Germany as the Allied Armies armies, having advanced from the Normandy landings, stood on the banks of the Rhine. In the east vast numbers of Russians were driving relentlessly towards Berlin. The Allies had finally gained air superiority and from their bomb-cratered airfields, critically low and materials and fuel, the Luftwaffe prepared to defend the Reich during the final onslaught .
