D-Day, 6 June 1944: the day on which the liberation of France began, marking the beginning of the end of the war in Europe.

Under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Operation Overlord coordinated the efforts of 12 nations and was the largest air, land, and sea operation in history, involving over 5,000 ships, 11,000 aircraft and more than 150,000 troops.

This momentous Operation paved the way for eventual victory over Nazi Germany and the end of War in Europe.
