Description

Specially commissioned in 1985 to commemorate the Anniversary of the Allied victory in World War II, this magnificent piece brings to life the two greatest British fighter aircraft ever to fly, the Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane, in a gigantic vista over London and the River Thames.
A truly symbolic painting, brimming with emotion, the print was released in 1985 and was personally signed by two of the most distinguished RAF Fighter Aces of WWII:

Wing Commander BOB STANFORD-TUCK DSO DFC** – 92 Sqn / 29 victories
Air Commodore ALAN DEERE DSO OBE DFC* – 54 Sqn, 602 Sqn / 22 victories

THE MULTI-SIGNED EDITION

This copy was kept aside and over a period of many years was additionally autographed by a further eight Pilots and Aircrew who flew in combat during the Battle of Britain, creating a very special collector’s piece:

Wing Commander TOM NEIL DFC* AFC AE – 249 Sqn / 14 victories
Wing Commander VIVIAN SNELL – 151 Sqn, 501 Sqn, / 1 victory over a Bf109 before being shot down himself
Wing Commander BOB FOSTER DFC – 695 Sqn / 9 victories
Wing Commander ROLAND “BEE” BEAMONT – CBE DSO* DFC* DL – 87 Sqn / 7 victories
Squadron Leader KEN “HAWKEYE” LEE – 501 Sqn / 7 victories
Flight Lieutenant JACK TOOMBS – 236 Sqn / Wireless Operator and Air Gunner on Blenheims
Lieutenant Commander JEFFREY QUILL OBE, AFC, FRAeS – 65 Sqn / Vickers’ Chief Test pilot (the second person to fly the Spitfire) he insisted on flying in combat during the Battle of Britain, to ‘properly’ test the Spitfire – scoring 1 ½ victories.
