Description
Early on a summer morning in 1944, ground crews prepare P-47 Thunderbolts of the 56th Fighter Group for their next mission. Based primarily at Halesworth and Boxted, England, the 56th FG was the only U.S. Fighter Group to fly the P-47 exclusively throughout the war. Known as “Zemke’s Wolfpack”, the 56th achieved great success against the Luftwaffe with their massive fighters, with some of the highest scoring U.S. aces coming from their ranks. Some of Germany’s top fighter aces fell to the Wolfpack in the war..
