Description
Whilst attacking a B-17 formation southeast of Berlin on April 10th 1945, Oberleutnant Walter Schuck, flying his Me262 with JG7, is caught in a surprise attack by the P-51 Mustang of Flt Lt Joseph Peterburs, flying with the 20th Fighter Group.
With his aircraft hit, Schuck was forced to bail out, injuring both ankles upon landing and Peterburs was himself brought down later that day while strafing an airfield.
While Walter recovered from his injuries the War ended so Walter didn’t return to combat. But during these these chaotic last few weeks, many of his comrades were killed, so he always credited Joe with saving his life by shooting him down!
After the war Joe and Walter met several times becoming friends and in 2010 came together to sign this print edition whilst attending one of our events.
