Description
On February 9th, 1944, just south of the French Mediterranean port of Nice, U.S. pilots of the 52nd FG 12th Air Force are attacked by Luftwaffe Focke-Wulf 190s while bombing a German convoy, F/O Robert A “Bob” Hoover, flying a Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vc is hit by “one heck of a deflection shot” from a FW 190 A8 flown by Ace Lt. Siegfried Lemke of JG 2, and is forced to bail out of his aircraft.
