Known as the ‘Skytrain’ by the Americans and the ‘Dakota’ by the British, the C-47 was one of the most crucial Allied aircraft of WWII. Capable of carrying 6,000 lbs of cargo, a fully assembled jeep, or 28 soldiers in full gear, this military transporter flew from every continent and participated in every major battle.

The C-47 sealed its legendary status on D-Day when it dropped thousands of paratroopers behind enemy lines, paving the way for the liberation of Europe and ultimately the end of the war.
