Description
Robert Taylor’s atmospheric piece depicts a flight of rugged P-47 Thunderbolts – Razorbacks of the 404th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force.
Ground-attack pilots went in low, did the job and got our fast! Having cleared the target area on a low-level attack on an airfield inland from Havre, Normandy, 1944, tracer rounds from ground defenses can be seen heading towards the aircraft, almost all of which have taken hits.
Each print has been signed by the artist along with Three of the most highly decorated P-47 Pilots who flew in combat over Normandy:
General JAMES E. HILL – 6 victories, including all German Fighters & a Mig-15 in Korea
Captain PAUL DOUGLAS – 8 aerial and 27 ground victories, he flew 6000 hrs as a Command Pilot
Colonel JOE MATTE – 7 victories, all Me109s & FW190s
