Description
The Memphis Belle was recognized as one of the first USAAF B-17s to complete 25 combat missions during WWII.
Since then, the aircraft and her crew have become famous, inspiring two movies and countless documentaries and books; in fact few other aircraft throughout history have achieved such iconic, “household name” status.
Coulson’s poignant painting depicts the crew of the Belle gathering at the dispersal point on a misty morning at RAF Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire. As they prepare to take their positions aboard the bomber, they will soon be carrying out another grueling daylight mission over occupied Europe.
