Description
Climbing on full power amongst the deep lines of the evening cumulus clouds over Northern France, the P-51 Mustangs of the famous Fourth Fighter Group have penetrated deep into enemy territory. Ahead of a large formation of B-17s they will shortly intercept the Fw190s of the Luftwaffe. With long range fuel tanks already jettisoned, the P-51s are ready for battle. Flown by the experienced aces of the “Fighting Fourth” they will acquit themselves well.
WWII’s most successful offensive fighter aircraft, the P-51 Mustang, is majestically portrayed in this spectacular painting by Robert Taylor. The aircraft seemingly fly off the canvas, whilst the deep fire colors of the sunset cloudscape provide a mellow backdrop to the metallic determination of the P-51 pilots.
