Description
“Dinghy” Young releases his hydrostatically-triggered, cylindrical bouncing bomb at precisely 60ft and 230mph as he approaches the Mőhne Dam. It was a direct hit. The dam has but moments to live.
On the night of 16/17 May 1943, nineteen Lancasters and 133 men from the recently formed 617 Squadron carried out one of the most spectacular precision raids in the history of air warfare. Using the ingenious ‘Bouncing Bomb’ designed by Barnes Wallis, this highly secret undertaking was code-named Operation Chastise, but the world would come to know it simply as the Dambuster Raid.
Depicting one of the most audacious air raids of WWII, the historic attack on the hydroelectric dams in the heart of the Ruhr Valley, this outstanding piece captures the very essence of the Dams raids.
